Total working
mileage of Kazakhstan railways makes over 13,6 thousand km, including over 5
thousand km (37 %) of double-track lines and 3,7 thousand km (27 %) of
electrified track lines. Miles of track of Kazakhstan railways is 18,8 thousand
km, yard and special tracks - 6,7 thousand km. The most part of JSC “NC “KTZh”
railway network (97,5 %) is located in the territory of Kazakhstan and the
rest part 2,5 % in the territory of boundary regions of Russia. 5732 km of
railways run along the northern and central oblasts of the Republic which makes
42 % of total working mileage operated by JSC “NC ’’Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”. In
southern and eastern regions of the country are located 3992 km of tracks (29.3
%) and in the western - 3577 km (26,2 %).
Some parts of the railway network on the RK
territory are in operational use by railways administrations of the Russian
Federation, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. There are 854 stations and separate
points along the republican railway network. 361 stations and separate points
provide cargo operations. 321 stations are equipped with automated control
system, 39 stations are equipped by sorting facilities (humps, semi-humps, shuntbacks), 6 stations
have pneumatic mail system for delivery of cargo and train documents).
Nowadays in
railway branch of Kazakhstan, obsolete models of a rolling stock, the
travelling techniques, a design of a way, technology of repair and the
maintenance of the basic industrial means are used. Key groups of a fixed
capital of railway branch (a way, electrical supply devices, the alarm system
and communications, a rolling stock) have considerable degree of deterioration
on service life. So average service life of the main diesel
locomotives has reached 85 % of standard term, shunting diesel locomo- tives-73
%, freight cars-69 %, electric locomotives-63 %, carriages-61 %, a way-54 %.
The age of structure of a rolling stock of railway transportation is presented
at the table.
Inventory park of locomotives makes 1720, including
26 steam, 1094 diesel and 600 electric locomotives. Inventory park of freight
cars of Kazakhstan by the time of distribution of cars of former USSR Ministry
of Communications (as of 01.01.1993) made 104 985 cars. Within the last year
the inventory park of cars decreased and currently it makes 59 756 cars (table
3).
Compare to
similar period of the last year the average point system of track and technical
means conditions was upgraded by 5 points, signaling and communication
facilities by 2,3 points and power supply facilities by 3 points.
The improvement
of track conditions and parameters of rail gauge provided installation of
track machine units and transfer to new technologies of track maintenance.
